LuciaKempke’s work DRUGS&DREAMS is closely related to the American university system and the nature of self advertisement through logos, sweatshirts, and memorabilia with the goal to have proud students who represent their own school.

The New York SVA reports daily on its website and in the school buildings on the success of alumni or current students. It reminds more of an agency and not a creative environment for artists. It transports the feeling of becoming rich (or at least having a lot of attention) after studying at SVA.

Kempkes reworked this unrealistic SVA profile turning it into the opposite cliché. From “Business&Success” to “Drugs&Dreams”. She founded a college team with this name and asked everyone at SVA to. The work consists of

two sweatshirts with digital embroidery (DRUGS&DREAMS) and 44 photographic portraits of artstudents graduating at SVA wearing the sweatshirt.
