A new gallery in Paris and Berlin:
Vincenz Sala is a young gallery with a long history. Starting off in the mid-80ies in Berlin, it moved to Brussels in the late 90ies, and has now relaunched with 2 spaces in Berlin and Paris. Committed to the increasingly rich artistic exchange between these two cities the gallery follows a program where young upcoming artists, working across all media, find there place next to established, mostly sculptural, positions the gallery has been following over the years.
It’s not the first time in post-war history that Germany exports balloons. This time around a little more than 99 and Hans Hemmert’s balloons are a little more belligerent. A German “Haubitze” is back in Paris. But will not leave the gallery room. And even if it did it couldn’t do much harm. Hemmert got international acclaim for his yellow bigger than life balloons. He lived and worked (and drove a car) in some of them. More recently, and in a smaller than life dimension the ballon’s invasive tendencies became a little more explicit, surely friendly but intriguing, and turned into a firm concrete grip. Not that much more to say on the iconographic program. But much more to see - in Berlin Hans Hemmert’s parallel show in the gallery’s Berlin space.
