BudeMunkWieland sind zurück. Bettina Munks Ausstellung 'In Your face' im Mai 2024 bot willkommene Gelegenheit, das Autorenkollektiv für eine Lesung aus dem gemeinsam verfassten Roman "Aufprall" einzuladen. Nun haben BudeMunkWieland ihr nächstes Buch vorgelegt. 'Transit 64' und der Bucheinschlag pitched:

"Marlene Dietrich und Bert Brecht, Willy Brandt und John F. Kennedy, der Osten und der Westen, Fakten und Fiktionen: Halb Roman, halb Graphic Novel, schüttelt Transit 64 die Welt des Kalten Kriegs durcheinander - bis wir in dieser nur scheinbar weit zurückliegenden Zeit die Züge unserer Gegenwart wiedererkennen."

Der Roman, der sich im Kolorit der Zeit ausmalt, wie Willy Brandt und Egon Bahr, sein Referent und engster Vertrauter, Marlene Dietrich als Kandidatin für die Wahl zur Bundespräsidentin gewinnen wollen, hat sehr freundliche Rezensionen eingefahren (eine Auswahl nebst Radiobeiträgen findet sich hier). Kein Wunder, dass BudeMunkWieland immer noch auf Lesetour durch Deutschland sind. Nur ist es mit dem Lesen allein nicht getan. Der Verlag hat recht: Transit 64 ist mit Bettina Munks Beitrag zum Buch auch Graphic Novel und wir sind sehr froh, dass wir in den Räumen der Galerie das GANZE Buch präsentieren können.

Am 14. März eröffnen wir mit dem Fokus auf Munks graphischen Beitrag. Der macht im Übrigen deutlich, dass Transit 64 auch ein Berlinroman ist.

Zur Finissage am 28. März schließen wir mit einer Lesung im Kollektiv und werden im Anschluss bestimmt Gelegenheit haben, mit BudeMunkWieland auch über das komplexe Verhältnis zwischen Buch und Roman, zwischen Text und Bild zu sprechen.

BudeMunkWieland are back. Bettina Munk's show ‘In Your Face’ in May 2024 provided a welcome opportunity to invite the authors' collective to give a reading from their jointly written novel ‘Aufprall’ (Impact). Now BudeMunkWieland have presented their next book. ‘Transit 64’ and the book cover pitches:

“Marlene Dietrich and Bert Brecht, Willy Brandt and John F. Kennedy, East and West, fact and fiction: half novel, half graphic novel, Transit 64 shakes up the world of the Cold War—until we recognize the traits of our present in this seemingly distant past.”

The novel, which develops a plot about Willy Brandt and Egon Bahr, his advisor and closest confidant, trying to win Marlene Dietrich as a candidate for the election of the Federal President, has received very favorable reviews (a selection along with a couple of radio reports, can be found here). No wonder BudeMunkWieland are still on a reading tour through Germany. But reading alone is not enough. The publisher is right: with Bettina Munk's contribution to the book, Transit 64 is also a graphic novel, and we are very happy to be able to present the ENTIRE book in the gallery space.

On March 14, we will open with a focus on Munk's graphic contribution. Which, incidentally, makes it very clear that Transit 64 is also a 'Berlinroman'.

For the finissage on March 28 BudeMunkWieland will read extracts from the book after which we will surely have the opportunity to also discuss the complex relationship between book and graphic novel, between text and image.
